This Kundan jewelry, made the authentic way, features hand cut quartz glass stones that are backed with silver foil and individually set into tiny metal frames that are plated with 22K gold.

In this case, these tiny frames are further enhanced with green enamelwork, or Meenakari work, as it is known by, in India.

The method is believed to have originated in the royal courts of Rajasthan and Gujarat. It is the oldest form of jewelry made and worn in India.

The amount of work to create such works of art is extensive and requires the finest craftsmen to accomplish.

The authentic Kundan stone is made from fused Quartz, that is:

Fused quartz or fused silica is glass consisting of silica in amorphous (non-crystalline) form. It differs from traditional glasses in containing no other ingredients, which are typically added to glass to lower the melt temperature. Fused silica, therefore, has high working and melting temperatures. The optical and thermal properties of fused quartz are superior to those of other types of glass due to its purity.

Crystal quartz - Symbol of balance and purity, helps meditation. Has a very strong and shiny aura recommended for harmonization of places. It's the stone of wisdom, clairvoyance and spirituality.

From Wikipedia: Kundan jewellery is created by setting carefully shaped, cut and polished multicolored gemstones into an exquisitely designed pure gold or faux metal base. The elaborate process begins with the skeletal framework called Ghaat. Thereafter, the Paadh procedure takes place, during which wax is poured onto the framework and moulded according to the design. Following this is the Khudai process, when the stones or uncut gems are fit into the framework. Meenakari then involves enameling to define the design details. Next, the Pakai process involves gold or silver foils that hold the gems onto the framework; these are soldered. Finally, the gems are polished using the Chillai process.
